Superlek Kiatmoo9 Prepares for Historic North American Debut and Bantamweight Title Showdown

Reigning ONE Flyweight Kickboxing World Champion, Superlek Kiatmoo9, known as “The Kicking Machine,” is leaving no stone unturned as he gears up for his highly anticipated debut on North American soil. On September 6 at Ball Arena in Denver, Superlek will step into the ring at ONE 168: Denver, where he will move up in weight to challenge Jonathan “The General” Haggerty for the ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Title.

This World Title contest represents a significant milestone in Superlek’s illustrious career. Victory would not only crown him a two-sport titleholder but would also solidify his place among the all-time greatest strikers in combat sports. With such high stakes on the line, Superlek is fully aware that he must be in the best form of his career to face the formidable Haggerty.

To ensure he reaches peak physical condition, Superlek has enlisted the expertise of a sports scientist named Hook, who is overseeing his strength and conditioning regimen. This collaboration marks a new chapter in Superlek’s training, as he seeks to optimize his performance while moving up to bantamweight.

In a recent interview with ONE Championship, Superlek discussed the critical role that Hook plays in his preparation. “I feel I’m more at ease with the weight-cutting process. It’s essential to have someone you can trust on your team. This is my first time moving up to bantamweight, so he’s been a big help,” Superlek explained. “We’ve been doing weight training, making sure that strength is increased, but not too much muscle mass because I still want to be able to defend my belt at flyweight. His knowledge is definitely valuable. I feel prepared and supported in this fight camp.”

Hook’s task is no small feat. He must ensure that Superlek gains the necessary size and muscle to compete at bantamweight while also making weight in accordance with ONE’s global rules, which mandate that fighters must weigh in while hydrated. Moreover, Superlek plans to return to flyweight to defend his kickboxing crown following the bout, adding another layer of complexity to his training regimen.

Superlek’s decision to work with a sports scientist and nutritionist underscores his belief in the importance of a holistic approach to training at the elite level. He emphasized the value of these experts, stating, “Every athlete should work with a nutritionist and a sports scientist. They can help you develop your potential in incredible ways. If you train alone without these two, you might reach a certain level, but with their help, you can take your performance to the next level.”

Interestingly, Hook’s journey to becoming Superlek’s trainer began as a fan of the Thai superstar. The two first met at a meet-and-greet event in 2023, where Hook, then just another admirer, took selfies and collected autographs from his idol. Reflecting on their relationship, Superlek shared, “Yes, he was a fan. We met last year, and he got selfies and autographs of course. It’s great to have someone who’s into the sport itself to be part of the team. I’m happy that he joined. I believe we bond over our goals and passion for Muay Thai.”

As Superlek prepares to make history in Denver, his collaboration with Hook exemplifies the dedication and meticulous planning that defines his approach to the sport. Fans around the world eagerly await to see if “The Kicking Machine” can conquer yet another division and further cement his legacy as one of the greatest strikers of all time.
